METAL CASTING

AT MOLTEN MANUFACTURING, WE ARE SPECIALISTS IN A VARIETY OF CASTING METHODS

GREEN SAND

A reusable and environmentally friendly moulding medium that utilises bentonite clay and water to bond the sand to the form of your casting. Typically used for production quantities for the cost saving but more difficult for finer detail.

HARD SAND

Chemically bonded sand using a resin, catalyst mix. Much more forgiving than greensand as the strength is significantly increased. Finer detail can be achieved.

INVESTMENT CASTING

-Lost wax castings start with a wax piece that is consecutively dipped in a ceramic slurry and dried until a thick shell is formed. When fired to 1000 degrees Celsius the wax is removed and the cavity is filled with your desired alloy. Detail as fine as a fingerprint can be achieved.

-Lost PLA is a modern take, replacing the wax for a 3D printed pattern. High accuracy and faster turnaround for prototyping can be coupled with lower cost for short runs as a rubber master pattern can be negated.

-Block moulding bypasses the dipping process in lieu of a product similar to that of plaster of paris. Once cured the plaster is heated slowly over the course of 12-15 hours removing the moisture and wax/PLA. While faster than ceramic shell it not feasible for larger works.
